About Us

This About Us page on the Brits in Crete web portal is part of our comprehensive information resource for British, Irish and other ex-patriates wishing to relocate mainly to Crete or who are already there. We publish who owns this web site, and how to contact us. We deliver transparency. Advice we give you also applies to other locations in Greece!

As part of the foreign community in Greece, Brits in Crete helps make your move to settle down and live abroad that much easier. Many useful links for day-to-day ex-patriate experiences in Crete on this web site are through the eyes and ears of residents already settled down and make Greece their home.

If you plan to retire in Crete, work in Crete, purchase a property to build, or invest in a renovated holiday property or even a business, we offer sound advice.

Perhaps you just want to come on over and hang out. We have that covered too for those with a shorter term stay in mind.

Chicago Traditional English Fish and Chips, Chania

Chicago Traditional English Fish and Chip Shop. This was a venture by Brian Saunders of Channel 4's "A Place In Greece" Fame in Almerida (Almirida), 20 something kilometres outside Chania. Now Brian is taking a fresh direction. Updated to May 2009. Did they or didn't they sell their house featured in the Crete TV series? More here.

Cretan Family Takeaway, Stalis

The Cretan Family is in Stalis, near Malia. It is run by Korinna and Nektario. It is THE BEST place in Stalis for All Types of Pita, including Gyros, Chicken, Burger and even Vegetarian. And the Sugar and Lemon Crepes are to die for. Give them a try if you're in Stalis and tell them BritsInCrete sent you.

Some Brit ex-pats in our Crete Forum even write odes to us
as a testimonial! (:- (;-

A "Tongue-In-Cheek ODE TO BIC

"I FOUND THIS EX-PAT RABBLE QUITE BY CHANCE
AND HOPED MY LIFE, ON CRETE, THEY’D ENHANCE
I ASKED A FEW Q’s AND GOT BACK A FEW A’s.
LIFTING MY SPIRITS WHILST COUNTING THE DAYS

QUESTIONS ON HOUSING, ANIMALS AND DAMP
IF I STAY IN THE SUN, WILL I GET CRAMP?
IS LIFE SO MUCH BETTER IN THE SOUTH MED?
WHO CARES, ONE DAY WE’LL ALL BE DEAD

IS THE SEA WET? DO THE CLOUDS HIDE THE SUN?
CAN YOU BUY BROWN SAUCE WITH CHIPS IN A BUN?
WILL I BE EATEN OR JUST OR JUST GNAWED AT THE EDGES?
(IF THEY DON’T SELL CHIPS, WHAT ABOUT WEDGES?)

WHEN THE QUESTIONS ARE DULL OR WE’RE IN A BAD MOOD
WE TURN ON SOMEONE, WE SO WANT TO BE CRUDE.
WE WANT TO BE CHILDISH AND SAY HOW WE FEEL
BUT WITH GERALD (NEW ADMIN) THAT’S NOT THE DEAL

I PEN THIS CRAPPY ODE FOR ALL TO READ ON THIS SITE
NOT FOR POSITIVE REPLIES OR TO START A BIG FIGHT
NO, I WANT TO MAKE ONE THING GO AWAY IN A BLINK
HUNDRED-PLUS POSTS TO STOP MY NAME BEING PINK"
