Useful Greek Banking Links: - Hellenic Bank Association Web Site - Remember to Introduce Yourself to your Greek bank manager! According to EU legislation, and as now being carried out by your Greek Bank, if you hold an account in the country, you must prove who you are under European Union requirements. This is handled in Greece under reference Greek Law 3691/2008 (Government Gazette Α’ 166/5.8.2008) and the relevant provisions of the Bank of Greece (National Central Bank) decision 281/5/17.3.2009 (Government Gazette Β’ 650/9.4.2009) for the prevention of money laundering and terrorism financing, and under Greek Law 2472/1997 on the individual’s protection. Under those Greek statutes, anyone with a Greek bank account must provide up-to-date, verifiable personal information to their bank, even if they have been a client of the bank for many years.
