The Labour Ministry has agreed that the Labour Day or May Day holiday will be held on Tuesday, May 7 this year. The day has been moved after a request by shop owners who feared that they would lose vital business if May Day was held on May 1, which is also the Wednesday before Orthodox Easter. Traders are hoping that they will see an upturn in the number of customers visiting their shops ahead of the Easter holidays. The holiday has instead been moved to a day when stores will be closed anyway due to the Orthodox Easter break. Only businesses that work on Sundays or during public holidays will be able to operate as normal on May 7.
